This jazz drumming website was designed by educated drummers who want to give back to the drumming community with free funk drumming articles, videos, and drumming tips. We have many other websites on Rock, Latin, and Funk, so be patient as we start to write content for our websites.

Since jazz is one of the most artistic forms of drumming, there is going to be a larger focus on teaching you the different tools and tips that other drummers use. Once we cover all of these tools, we will start to show you how to put it all together and apply your ideas onto your drum kit.

There are so many different styles of jazz drumming, there is traditional jazz, mainstream jazz, modern jazz, and then there are many hybrids and variations (beebop, fusion, etc…) Most of these different styles share the basic fundamental groove. Once you learn the basic groove and playing styles you will be able to take these patterns and apply them to the different styles of jazz that you are most interested in.

As a jazz drummer it is your job to accent the other members in your band, it is especially important that you focus on listening to the dynamics in each song you play. It will take lots of practice to develop your groove, dynamics, and timing to play comfortably in a jazz band; however you will find it very rewarding when you get to this stage in your drumming career.
